The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Sunday (27 August) said it detained a domestic oil tanker suspected of transporting subsidised fuel at 17.5 nautical miles west of Tanjung Lobang on 26 August.
MMEA Miri director Capt Mohd Shafie Paing said they also detained five Indonesian men, aged between 23 and 34 years old, on board who did not have identification documents on them during the inspection.

“During the inspection, the vessel was suspected of committing an offense under the Supply Control Act 1961 for carrying subsidised fuel without any permission documents for the cargo,” he said in a statement.
He added the ship and all five crew members were taken to the Dentention Centre Jetty at Pulau Melayu for further actions.
