A local oil tanker vessel was detained at 14.1 nautical miles off northwest of Labuan by the Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Saturday (21 May), according to local news agency Bernama.
Its director Captain Nudin Jusoh said a MMEA ship found the tanker vessel during a patrol in the area about 10am.
He said upon inspection, its officers found three Indian and two Indonesian crew members, aged between 25 to 42 on board the vessel, which had an expired domestic shipping licence (DSL).
According to Nudin, both the Indonesian crew were detained as they did not possess valid travel documents.
“The two were detained while the vessel was towed to the MMEA jetty in Patau-Patau for further investigations under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Merchant Shipping Ordinance (MSO 1952),” he said.
No further information was provided on the name and build of the vessel.
