Vietnam Coast Guard detains local oil tanker, seizes 15,000 litres of illegal diesel

The Vietnam Coast Guard on Tuesday (8 June) seized 15,000 litres of diesel oil from a tanker in the region between Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, it said.

According to the authority, the crew members could not produce invoices and documents proving the legal origin of the oil on board, and failed to produce vessel records during the time of inspection.

The crew alleged the oil was purchased while the ship was floating on the sea; it was on its way to the Thuy Nguyen district (Hai Phong).

The Vietnam Coast Guard has made an initial record and brought the ship to a safe berth at Got wharf area, Cat Hai district to issue a decision to temporarily seize the vessel and goods while conducting an investigation in accordance to the law.
