Shanghai-based Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group on Tuesday (24 March) said it has successfully installed the second main engine of the world’s largest dual-fuel container ship in record time.

The 23,000 teu container ship is being built for CMA CGM and its main engine weighs at a hefty 2,200 tonnes (mt).

Despite encountering the large size of the engine and manpower shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company completed the task in six days by using five large cranes for the main components and a hundred smaller cranes for the other parts.

The earlier projected time to complete the installation was scheduled for nine days. As such, the company has set a record in China for the installation of an engine of this class.
