The International Bunker Industry Association on Tuesday (6 August) introduced Alex Tang as its new Regional Manager for IBIA (Asia) Ltd. effective 5 August, 2019.
Tang has a strong technical background and has worked with fuel testing and inspection services for nearly 14 years, where he has been dealing with a range of bunker industry stakeholders, according to IBIA.
In this work he has been managing client relationships as well as undertaking training, and also has managerial experience. He speaks Mandarin and Cantonese in addition to English.
“We are excited to welcome Alex to the IBIA team. He brings a great set of skills that make him very well suited to this important role, and we look forward to working with him,” said Unni Einemo, the Director of IBIA.
Tang joins IBIA from the AVA Marine Group Pte Ltd. where he was Managing Director, and Petro Inspect Group where he was Director for Global Sales and Marketing. Prior to that he worked for Bureau Veritas Asia and Lloyd’s Register FOBAS, and before that at BP Singapore within the field of industrial lubricants. He has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
“I am delighted to join IBIA at the right time to work with all the industry stakeholders during the challenging 2020 and post 2020 era. This is a new chapter for marine fuels that will involve new opportunities and challenges ahead,” he said.
Tang replaces Simon Neo, who left the role as IBIA’s Regional Manager for Asia at the end of July. He will be assisted in the running of IBIA (Asia) Ltd. by Noraini Binte Salim, who was recently appointed as Office Manager.
Commenting on the new appointment, IBIA’s Chairman Michael Green says: “While we are sad to see Simon depart it is fantastic that we are able to bring someone of Alex’s calibre onboard and I look forward to working closely with him.”
