Kaohsiung-based shipbuilder CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, formerly known as China Shipbuilding Corporation, on Tuesday (9 July) said it has successfully carried out an operation to install a scrubber system onboard a 13,000 TEU capacity boxship owned by Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).
CSBC noted space limitation of the existing engine room layout and the installation of a specific arrangement of pipelines within the limited space to be among the challenges for the operation.
“The construction is relatively complicated, and the pre-preparation time of the case is relatively rushed, which adds a lot of difficulty in the modification operation,” it stated.
The OOCL vessel was docked at the CSBC yard on 22 May, and completed scrubber installation on 9 July.
It will commence commercial operations after a sea trial.
