The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Monday (27 May) detained a Cook Islands-registered tanker over suspicion of illegal anchoring in East Johor waters during ‘Ops Khas Pagar’, it said.

The new arrest at 2pm was made a day after two different vessels were held over suspicions of illegal anchoring with the same territorial waters last Sunday.

Maritime Captain Mohd Zulfadli Nayan, Director of Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone (ZMTS), said the tanker was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Team at 3.5 nautical miles East Tanjung Penyusop.

‘Ops Khas Pagar’, held in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya festive season, was launched on 20 May.
