Malaysia: MMEA Johor detains unidentified tanker in local waters

The Johor division of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Saturday afternoon (9 March, 1.30pm) reportedly detained a tanker at approximately 4.5 nautical miles southeast of Tanjung Piai, Johor Bahru.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral (Maritime) Aminuddin Abdul Rashid told local media MMEA personnel found five Malaysian crew members, but no Captain nor officers, when onboard the unnamed tanker.
“The inspection carried out by Maritime Malaysia patrol boats found the vessel roaming without the permission of the Malaysian Marine Director,” he said in a statement.
“In addition, it also failed to exhibit shipping insurance when the inspection was conducted and the owner failed to ensure sufficient membership in the vessel as the Secure Membership Certificate.”
The tanker has been detained for further investigations.
