The Singapore court Wednesday sentenced certain individuals involved in an illegal transaction of marine gas oil (MGO) between tugboat TB Support 1 and receiving vessel Ummi to prison, according to Today Online.

The crew of TB Support 1 was planning to sell 3 metric tonnes (mt) of MGO to Ummi for the price of SGD $500 per mt and agreed to meetup off Sultan Shoal Lighthouse in Singapore waters for the transaction on 3 May.

The individuals, all Indonesian, were caught in the middle of the illegal operation by inspectors from a Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) patrol vessel at 12.45am the following day.

The captain of TB Support 1, Eko Soemarsono, was sentenced to seven weeks' jail for engaging in a conspiracy to commit criminal breach of trust as a staff of East Marine.

The five crew members of Ummi, namely Chief Officer Juniar Sembiring, Chief Engineer Hadiruddin Ibrahim, Second Officer Mukhamad Kusnul Roekan, Second Engineer Ferdinand Marten Gerret, and able-bodied seaman Husin were sentenced to four weeks' jail each for engaging in a conspiracy to dishonestly receive the stolen oil.
