Ocean Tankers, the subsidiary of Singapore-based oil trading firm Hin Leong Group, has ordered six handy-sized tankers from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding at an undisclosed sum.
The 23,500 deadweight tonne (dwt) tankers will be able to carry a variety of dirty and clean oil products, a company spokeswoman told Reuters.
The vessels will be delivered by the end of 2020, and includes option for an additional four.
In total, Ocean Tankers has placed orders for 28 tankers with option for 12 more ships.
“These vessels have been ordered for fleet renewal purposes, as well as what we see to be an opportunity to trade more of these types of ships,” she said.
To date, Ocean Tankers owns 136 vessels, including 15 VLCCs, with a total capacity of more than 7.7 million dwt.
Ocean Bunkering Services, the sister firm of Ocean Tankers, is adding a total of five bunkering vessels to its Singapore fleet; one ship will be supplying marine gas oil (MGO) while the remaining will be delivering fuel oil.
