Sri Lanka embassy confirms Sinopec bunkering plans at Hambantota
The Embassy of Sri Lanka located in Beijing on Tuesday (5 November) confirmed plans by Sinopec Group to invest in bunkering operations at Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
Sinopec Group has incorporated a company in Sri Lanka named Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka (Private) Ltd., it said.
The company has made an application, “for the bunkering license to carry out bunkering (marine fuels supply) business at Hambantota Port beginning Q4 2019.”
Moreover, the Chinese oil major also intends to invest in an oil refinery at Hambantota.
The above developments were revealed by Sinopec’s Executive Director Li Zurong when his delegation met Sri Lankan Ambassador Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku to discuss the company’s Sri Lanka investment in a recent meeting.
