Malaysia: Straits Inter Logistics makes land logistics expansion

Malaysia-listed bunkering firm Straits Inter Logistics (Straits) on Wednesday (20 February) welcomed an experienced land logistics player to head its newly formed transport subsidiary Straits Alliance Transport Sdn Bhd (SAT).

James Chai, a Malaysian citizen aged 40, has accumulated more than 15 years of experience in automotive and logistics related activities.

He graduated with an Associate Degree major in Automotive Service Technology from Ferris State University, the United States of America in 2000 and gained experience in transportation and logistics related activities in 2004 when he joined Kee Fatt Motor Works Distributor Sdn. Bhd (KFMWD) as Executive Director.

KFMWD is principally involved in the transportation and distribution of commercial diesel and commercial lubricants via oil tanker or trucks.

In 2014, Chai founded Am Alliances Sdn. Bhd. a transportation service provider as Executive Director, where he was mainly involved in the provision of land transportation services for his customers who are mainly the construction players.

In 2015, he left KFMWD and fully devoted his time in Am Alliances Sdn. Bhd.

“Mr. James Chai had resigned as Director and sold his entire shares in Am Alliances Sdn. Bhd on 24 January 2019 and 1 February 2019 respectively,” said a statement from Straits.

“With his knowledge and experience and in line with the diversification of the existing principal activities of the Group to include land transportation and logistics business, the Board had agreed that Mr. James to be appointed as director of SAT on full time employment basis, which he will be responsible for the overall business operations and performance of SAT.”

Straits and Chai will respectively own 70% and 30% shares of SAT; the company was incorporated by Straits on Aug 30, 2018 with an issued capital of RM1 million (US $250,000).
