Maersk record breaking MFM ‘sets new ops standard’ for bunkering
Singapore has achieved a new operational standard for bunkering with installation of the Endress and Hauser Promass X mass flow meter (MFM) onboard MT Eager, says owner and operator of the bunker tanker Hong Lam Marine.
Lim Teck Cheng, the Executive Chairman of Hong Lam marine, notes the vessel completing the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) acceptance test for MFM bunkering on 15 December 2018 through a close collaboration with Singapore charterer Maersk Oil Trading.
“This is the world’s first test and acceptance of a mass flow meter capable of delivering more than 1,000 metric tonnes per hour for marine refuelling operations,” he says.
“To give a comparison, the current model Endress and Hauser Promass F can only deliver more than 500 metric tonnes per hour.
“The increased delivery rate sets a new operating standard in faster turnaround and efficiency for both loading and bunker delivery adding further value to our customer’s ships calling at Singapore, the leading bunkering hub of the world.”
Maersk on Thursday (10 January) said it installed the world’s largest bunkering MFM unit onboard the high sulphur fuel oil barge MT Eager owned by Hong Lam Marine.
